Cast iron:- It is a genetic term that refer with a variety of iron alloys, but is often related to the most common gray iron. Forged iron might sound different like the form of pure component iron , it is associated with 2 to 4% of carbon including the amounts of silicon and manganese. Different impurities like sulfur and phosphorus are also common.

Cast iron is created by smelting ore or melting iron mixture with scrap metals and other alloy ingredients. The liquid mixture is then poured into molds and allowed to cool down and solidify. As a result of its higher carbon content, forged iron solidifies as heterogeneous alloy – it consists of multiple constituents or materials in numerous phases. This quality affects its physical properties.

When compared to wrought iron, cast iron is incredibly brittle and relatively hard and non-malleable. It cannot be stretched, bent into a shape. Its weak lastingness means it will fracture before it bends. However, feature sensible compression strength and used obtrusively in building construction before the appearance of steel industries in the early 20th century.

As compared to steel, forged iron has a lower freezing point, is high fluid and low reactive with mold materials – making it for casting. Casting is considerably less effortful than producing iron and distinguished form of production throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. This cast iron will be used for several industrial applications.
